Milouot & Karka Tova Le'Israel jointly own a 102-dunam site situated in the Western Galilee region, adjacent to the Acre Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). This site has received approval from the Israeli planning authority for the establishment of the Western Galilee Regional Waste Recycling & Recovery Center (WGWRC).
Milouot Corporation, established in 1960, is a conglomerate comprising factories and companies owned by 25 kibbutzim and villages in the Western Galilee region of northern Israel.
Functioning as a cooperative organization, Milouot provides services to its members and oversees about 15 subsidiary companies, primarily involved in agricultural production and processing. With approximately 1,100 employees, Milouot boasts an annual income of around 1 billion EU and equity capital of 100 million EU.
Currently, there are only some local MSW sorting plants operating in the region with landfilling being the primary waste treatment method. The establishment of the Western Galilee Regional Waste Recycling & Recovery Center (WGWRC) aims to address this gap by providing waste management services to the 1.2 million inhabitants of the region, who generate approximately 800,000 tons per year of MSW (around 2,500 tons per day).
Based on that, Milouot intends to promote & build on the site a series of facilities for waste treatment that align with the Waste Management Strategy of the Israeli Ministry of Environmental Protection, including:
Organic Waste Treatment Plant utilizing enclosed anaerobic digestion processes.
